Denis Villeneuve has been putting together an impressive filmography over the last five years, starting off with the gripping Incendies (2010), then back to back Jake Gyllenhaal thrillers, first with the puzzling Enemy, and then the gripping and acclaimed Prisoners (also with Hugh Jackman, both 2013).

Villeneuve and his dark brand of thrillers are back this year with the already well-reviewed Sicario (Spanish for “hitman”), a cartel-thriller which premiered at Cannes back in May. The movie features Emily Blunt (Looper) as an FBI Agent out of her depth after being enlisted by an elite government taskforce official to aid in the escalating war on drugs.

Channeling a Silence of the Lambs feel crossed with Traffic, if this didn’t already sound appealing it also boasts Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men) continuing his late run of good choices and the very underrated Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, The Usual Suspects).

At present the film has an outstanding 8.1 rating on IMDB and from the looks of the trailer it combines action with intense thrills, plenty of gore (those are bodies in the walls!), and gripping characters.
