Blink and you'll miss it.
Occasionally something comes around that makes you blink, rub your eyes and have to look again. In this case it’s Tesla with their P100D, which has just taken the title of worlds fastest accelerating production car.
This week Tesla released their P100D, which follows on from the P90D, which itself was no slouch by any calculation. The new model will do 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Now, it is true that the La Ferrari and the Porsche 918 are faster, they were limited production and now cannot be bought new. But imagine, a 4 door that drives itself, presumably for around a similar price to its predecessor, that beats any production Ferrari to 100.
This is all thanks to Tesla’s new 100 kWh battery packs, this also brings up the range on the car to an estimated 315 miles (507 km approx); which with Tesla’s Supercharging stations going up all over the world, means range anxiety is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
So if you want a car that will wipe the grin off your 911 Turbo toting neighbour, help the environment, and finance the next generation of electric cars (the Model S is really a way to finance the next stage of Tesla’s evolution), there’s really only one car for you.
Oh, and if you’re an existing Tesla owner that now feels a little inadequate, you can upgrade to the new battery packs for a relatively modest US$20,000.
