Have you ever been on a long trip or moved overseas and had to pack everything necessary to live a content life into one or two bags? Everything important to you made the cut, and the excess was simply, cut.

Instead of just doing that for a short period of time, Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus did it permanently. By simplifying their materialistic possessions they, in turn, searched for a way to reconnect with themselves and their motives to live a life dictated by their terms.

They established an organisation called The Minimalists, and their documentary follows their expedition across America to share their wisdom and experiences in an effort to give people a greater sense of control and presence in their lives.

It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure. But it’s less about just getting rid of that useless shit you don’t need in your garage or cluttering your desk, and more about self-awareness and happiness on a scale that is measured by no one but yourself.

The result of this ambitious journey, interwoven with the insights of others who have had similar revelations in their lives, is 57 minutes of thought-provoking and inspiring visuals that will understandably leave your head spinning.

If you watch only one thing this week, make it this, because the entire documentary is now available to watch on YouTube.
