Behind The Scenes Footage Of New Star Wars Film Shows Carrie Fischer’s Last Days On Set

— Updated on 2 August 2021

Disney have shown a behind-the-scenes video of the much anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi, at their D23 Expo in California. This follows the release of the film’s first teaser trailer back in April.

The three-minute video features main protagonists Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaacs and also some new faces in Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern. A bearded Mark Hamill gets a lot of screen time, which some are saying alludes to his greater presense in this film. The clip shows some new footage as well as behind the scenes material, and cuts between interviews with the cast and director Rian Johnson. Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, had this to say about the film.

“Rian (Johnson) has written a story that’s unexpected but right. Some of the stuff that happens, people are gonna be like ‘Oh my god,'” Ridley added. “And even though everyone knows it’s the second in a trilogy, it feels like its own thing.”

However, it was the footage of Carrie Fischer, who plays General Leia Organa in the trilogy, that has a lot of people feeling emotional. The beloved Fischer, who died in December last year, appears throughout the behind-the-scenes footage and is seen dancing with her co-star Mark Hamill.

“It’s about family, and that’s what’s so powerful about it,” Fisher says in the video.

Even with the release of the teaser trailer and now this new footage, we still don’t really know anything about what happens in the The Last Jedi. However, according to director Rian Johnson, fans might find some aspects of the film “shocking.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will premiere in theatres December 15.
