New Lamborghini Urus Spotted Testing On The Road In The UK

Test mules have already been spotted in testing at the Nürburgring, but now Lamborghini’s 600bhp SUV has been spotted on UK roads.

First launched as a concept back in 2012, the Lamborghini Urus is set to release globally later this year. But the Raging Bull’s latest SUV project isn’t actually its first, with the LM002 being the Italian marque’s first foray into the world of “off-road” vehicles back in 1986. While the original was launched in super-limited numbers—only around 300 units were ever produced—Lamborghini’s second attempt looks set to launch in far higher volume, with the supercar providore fairly candid in its admission for annual global sales numbers to be at around 3,000 units.

Like the Audi Q8, the Urus will ride on the MLB-Evo platform, Volkswagen AG’s second generation platform strategy for shared modular construction. While it may seem the project is already German enough, Lamborghini have gone once step further by sourcing the exotic SUV’s 650hp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine from Porsche. A plug-in hybrid powertrain, a first for Lamborghini and set to be powered by a V6 petrol engine as its main source of power, is set to follow a year later.

The production Urus’ rear end is far less edgy than the original concept.

Production of the Urus will take place in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, like all modern Lamborghini production, but don’t expect to see many on Australian roads too often, with the Italian marque announcing the USA, China, the Middle East, Germany, Russia, and the UK as the main target markets. While we’re yet to receive a price guide for domestic pricing, expect the Urus to fetch around £180,000 in the UK (so in the vicinity of $400,000+ here in Oz).

The production Lamborghini Urus will have its world premiere on December 4, 2017. Stay tuned for further details.

Testing would’ve undoubtedly required no shortage of refueling.
