Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Confirmed For 2021 Release

After much deliberation on the matter of how a workplace comedy series about law enforcement can possibly exist congruently within the current sociopolitical landscape, Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 has just been confirmed for a 2021 release, putting any and all uncertainties to rest.

“It’s a very complicated subject, but I think [police] have to be portrayed much more realistically, in terms of this,” noted Andre Braugher, who portrays Captain Raymond Holt.

“We’re going into an eighth season with a new challenge, which is that everyone’s knowledge and feelings about police – have been profoundly affected.”

“We’re all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about,” says Andy Samberg, who portrays Detective Jake Peralta.

The premiere was originally scheduled for later this year, but with the issue of both real-life policing sending shockwaves around the world and that old chestnut of COVID-19 bringing productions to a standstill, it seems a bit of extra time to iron out the coming episodes is exactly what the show needs. Re-writes and all. In June, showrunner Dan Goor trashed four episode scripts in an effort to re-calibrate the show’s overall direction, according to Terry Crews.

While an exact release date for Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 has not yet been announced, we should expect the ensemble cast’s return to the sound stage precinct sometime from mid to late 2021 – in line with NBC’s fall program scheduling.
