To write that Hamilton is universally acclaimed would be underselling it, dramatically. The hip hop musical has set a new standard ever since making its Broadway debut in 2015, dominating West End two years later, and just generally flipping the idea of contemporary musicals around. Such is the strength of Lin-Manual Miranda’s punchy script about the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton crossing with modern-day politics. Scoring some cheap Hamilton tickets would be a dream, right?

That dream’s a reality now. Hamilton is officially making its Australian debut at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre, running from Wednesday 17th March to Sunday 5th September. So far, no other city in the country has been confirmed to witness Hamilton, although it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Australian production head down to Melbourne by the end of the year.

The 11-time Tony Award, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will typically run you back $70 to $250 per ticket, which is fairly expensive for a musical. Although it’s only slightly pricier than The Book of Mormon was during its Australian run.

There is a way to score cheap tickets though. $10 tickets in fact. Much like they do with some of the other big-name musicals which have toured Australia, TodayTix has opened up a very limited lottery that will go live at 12:01 AM every Friday morning, starting from 5th March.

Winners of the lottery will be drawn and notified between 1 PM and 6 PM on the following Thursday, after which they have just an hour to claim their tickets.

To take part in the TodayTix lottery you’ll need to download their official app – iOs and Android – and submit your entry each Friday for the following week’s performances. It’s not easy, but scoring one of the hottest tickets in town for the price of a few coffees is invaluable.
