WATCH: Mark Wahlberg Lives, Dies, & Repeats In The First ‘Infinite’ Trailer

It may have blindsided both Mark Wahlberg and director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) to learn their sci-fi/action flick Infinite was hitting the streaming queues directly in lieu of a conventional theatrical run, but here we are with a June 10th release date and first trailer.

The story concept itself is one which has been reinterpreted quite a few times in recent history. This year, a partially similar hook was the basis for Joe Carnahan’s Boss Level starring Frank Grillo and Mel Gibson, a well as Max Barbakow’s Palm Springs starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. A little further back, audiences experienced deja vu with Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. And of course, there’s the OG time-loop movie: Groundhog Day, directed by the legendary Harold Ramis and starring the inimitable Bill Murray.

Contrary to all of the above, however, aside from the presence of Marky Mark, this film will centre on Wahlberg’s Evan McCauley – a man who soon discovers his hallucinations are actually flashbacks from past lives he has since reincarnated beyond. Hunted by an organisation led by Chiwetel Ejifor’s Ted, the immortal Evan McCauley (referred to in this universe as an “infinite”) must confront the mysterious and mind-bending nature of his existence while on the run his life/lives.

Wahlberg and Ejifor will be joined by a cast comprised of Sophie Cookson, Jason Mantzoukas, Rupert Friend, Liz Carr, Toby Jones, Dylan O’Brien, and more. The screenplay is based on the D. Eric Maikranz novel The Reincarnationist Papers and has been adapted by Ian Shorr (Splinter, Training Day TV series). Wahlberg and Fuqua have also served as producers

While Infinite starring Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor is scheduled to grace the small screen(s) on June 10th over in the US, it’s unclear where it’ll land here in Australia – check out the trailer above.
