Matthew McConaughey Is Now A Full-Time Professor At The University Of Texas

— Updated on 30 July 2021

Matthew McConaughey is many things. An Academy Award-winning actor, Creative Director at Wild Turkey Distillers, founder of the Just Keep Living Foundation and now, he can add university professor to his rap sheet.

The lovable larrikin has just been announced as a full-time “professor of practice” at the Moody College of Communication in his home state of Texas.

“We are proud to welcome Professor McConaughey to officially join our world-class faculty,” said Moody College Dean Jay Bernhardt in a statement released by the uni. “Matthew cares deeply for our school and our students, and we are thrilled that he shares his time and talent to help prepare the next generation of media leaders and innovators.”

McConaughey, who graduated from the university in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree, has been involved with the uni for the past four years as a visiting instructor. During his stint at Moody, McConaughey has become somewhat of a cult hero after volunteering to drive students to their dorms after dark in a golf cart as part of the university’s safe-ride program.

The Interstellar and Reign Of Fire actor was first employed to teach the “Script to Screen” film production class with professor Scott Rice. Since then he’s gone on to develop the curriculum for the class and will be on board in a full-time capacity going forward.
