I’m sure I’m not the only one growing weary of everything sci-fi and post-apocalyptic. The concepts often become mind-numbingly stale as soon as the novelty wears off. The good news is HBO’s upcoming series – Raised By Wolves – looks as though it’ll be a legitimate breath of fresh air, not to mention genuinely fascinating to consume week after week.

Created and written by Aaron Guzikowski, directed and executive produced by Ridley Scott, the palpable scent of potential is all over this one. If the eventual product can somehow manage to deliver even 50% of what this first trailer depicts, it’s safe to assume we’re in for a decent serialised ride.

The story follows two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious “virgin” planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans comes under threat by the usual tensions of any society – i.e. religious differences – the androids soon learn that free will is rather fickle, and controlling the beliefs of many can be a treacherous endeavour.

Amanda Collins will portray Mother – one of the androids tasked with governing over the humans – and Vikings star Travis Fimmel will portray Marcus – a soldier/freedom fighter of some kind standing in opposition of the androids. Almost definitely pro-human and pro-free will based on the footage provided.

Raised By Wolves will premiere on September 3rd via HBO Max – meaning it’ll probably be hitting Binge around the same time.
