Any day I get to sit and reminisce about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater is a good day. Though perhaps I’m not even really nostalgic about it, and the only reason I hold it in such high regard is because that was the last time I experienced happiness. But that’s a discussion I need to have with my therapist. Moving on…

Those of you out there similarly afflicted with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater nostalgia (not the other weird thing) will soon be able to fill that hole in your heart with the release of Pretending I’m A Superman – an entire documentary on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, the X-Games, as well as the rise of skateboarding into the mainstream.

The documentary will feature interview appearances from Tony Hawk himself, with the addition of other high-profile skaters such as Rodney Mullen, Eric Koston, and Steve Caballero. All the key figures necessary for recounting the story of skateboarding being ushered in from fringe obscurity in the 90s to present day.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has often been attributed for the widespread adoption of skateboarding. Having first debuted on the original PlayStation in 1999, the in-game mechanics, trick system, and killer soundtrack quickly propelled it into gaming stardom.

The games proved such a success that prior to the fourth game’s release, Hawk was called into the Activision offices and slid a US$4 million cheque. Simply for being associated with it.

Pretending I’m A Superman will premiere on February 29th at the Mammoth Film Festival in California. Currently, there’s no word on the VOD/streaming release. Fingers crossed it’s soon.
