Showtime’s brand new anthology series about the “highs and lows of Silicon Valley” titled Super Pumped is just months from arriving – with the debut season covering the rise of Uber. Brian Koppelman and David Levien (otherwise known as the creators of Billions) have signed on to executive produce, write, and serve as showrunners alongside Beth Schacter; while the beloved Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as the ride-share company’s controversial Co-Founder & since-ousted CEO, Travis Kalanick.

Initially announced back in 2019 (though not as an anthology), season 1 will be heavily based on the book Super Pumped: The Battle For Uber authored by Mike Isaac. Events depicted include everything from the global operation’s beginnings as the upstart transportation company, to reaching a scale that proved difficult – borderline impossible – to maintain without cutting a few corners and making a few enemies.

As per Deadline:

Pivoting on Travis Kalanick, Uber’s hard-charging CEO who ultimately was ousted in a boardroom coup, the series will depict the roller-coaster ride of the upstart transportation company, embodying the highs and lows of Silicon Valley.

“Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a remarkably intelligent and charismatic actor, embodying charm with an unpredictable edge,” says Amy Israel, Showtime Executive Vice President of Scripted Programming, in reference to the forthcoming Uber series.

“We are beyond excited to see what he will bring to the role of Travis Kalanick – the hyper-brilliant and controversial CEO whose ambition and reckless drive threatened the very enterprise he was determined to build.”

“We are equally thrilled to be partnering on another series with Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Beth Schacter, who always deliver provocative and deeply entertaining shows that drive cultural conversation.”

According to Variety, beyond the first instalment involving Uber, each subsequent season of the upcoming anthology series will explore a “story that rocked the business world to its core and changed culture.” Meaning a little more content about WeWork is certainly on the cards.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is joined by Uma Thurman as Arianna Huffington, Kyle Chandler as Bill Gurley, Babak Tafti as Emil Michael, Mousa Hussein Kraish as Fawzi Kamel, as well as Elisabeth Shue who portrays Travis Kalanick’s mother Bonnie Kalanick.

Showtime’s Super Pumped season 1 is scheduled to premiere on February 27th of 2022 – domestic streaming platform still TBA.
