Many credit Batman Begins (2005) as the catalyst for elevating superhero films into the hands of amazing actors. But going back before Christopher Nolan brought us the dark and gritty superhero landscape we see today there were to Marvel Studios films. Blade (1998)was the first to treat the material seriously, and the original Bryan Singer X-Men (2000) was one of the first to start bringing very talented actors in.

So it seems fitting that X-Men: Apocalypse has pushed even further with the talent it has assembled. While not everyone is back from the hugely stacked X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the addition of Oscar Isaac as the titular Apocalypse adds to actors who in years gone by would of been found only in serious acting pieces or movies worthy of awards.

Isaac is capable of one day winning an Oscar. Michael Fassbender has been nominated and looks set to be again. Jennifer Lawrence is fast becoming the new Meryl Streep where everything she does receives praise. But while these awards may be out of reach for this film, the fact that such talent is drawn to the material should be taken as an assurance to a level of quality to expect.

And from the looks of the first trailer, the quality will be an action packed 2016.
