Aiming to compete with higher end of the headphone market, Audio-Technica have unveiled their $2,000 USD ATH-ADX5000 model. Tapping into the upper end of the market, with competition from the likes of Sennheiser dominating the space, the Japanese company are aiming to go all out with their offering.
The open back headphones feature a unique honeycomb pattern, newly designed audio drivers, plush Alcantra padding and laser-etched serial number. Hand assembled in Tokyo, they also come in a luxurious carrying case, more akin to a piece of luggage than a protective case for the pricey audio equipment. There's no solid release date confirmed for Australia as of yet, but they will go on sale in November. Keep an eye on the Aussie site for details and check out some pics of the headphones above.
