Each and every month in the Boss Hunting office we’re lucky enough to sample, find, taste, and curate some of the coolest stuff the world has to offer. From puppies and speakers, to backpacks and foldable phones – these are Boss Hunting’s favourite things for September 2020.

Chickpea

Chickpea The English Bulldog

In September, I acquired not one but two serious life additions. The first, a British Bulldog puppy named Chickpea who has just entered his 11th week of existence. We picked him up in Lithgow from a Mudgee based breeder called Drewpaws and he hasn’t left my side since. It has been a joy to observe his character develop with each new day but I could have never predicted how exhausted I’d be. Thank goodness I didn’t bite off this addition on my own. – James

Spirited

Like a lot of people during COVID, I’ve been enjoying a few more drinks than usual over the last few months – but there’s only so many beers and Negroni’s one man can drinks. Fortunately, the guys at Phaidon sent us their new cocktail almanac – Spirited – and my cocktail game has never been stronger. With over 600 recipes dating back as far as 500 years, there’s truly a cocktail for everyone. – Jack

Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design

Volvo XC40 R Design

I first admired the Volvo XC40 during a transit through Stockholm airport shortly after its global debut, however, I never imagined buying one. Having had little to nothing to do with the brand since entering the men’s lifestyle space, it’s strange to think I chose it over other manufacturers I was so familiar with. Perhaps that played a part – in that, I didn’t associate the marque with work or hadn’t made any meaningful (or forgettable) memories behind the wheel of one. Or perhaps I bought it because it’s the best vehicle in its class, with superior aesthetics and standard safety features matched to a ripper turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. – James

JBL PartyBox 300

While James has been busy tackling life’s next big steps, I’ve been pumping tunes to the sweet taste of afternoon beverages with the JBL PartyBox 300. Essentially, it’s a portable party speaker that has a chargeable battery for up to 18 hours of wireless playtime. It also lights up, effortlessly connects to your phone’s Bluetooth, and is an absolute necessity for every gathering that has the potential to get a little rowdy. If you love your music and love to entertain, this is the best money you’ll ever spend. And if you really love your music, you can upgrade to the PartyBox 1000… – John

Samsonite Konnect-i Backpack

After literally wearing my last backpack into the ground, I thought it was high time to upgrade to arguably the most high-tech backpack in the game – the all-new Samsonite Konnect-i. Pairing a sleek, functional, water repellent design with Google’s Jacquard technology – there’s not a backpack like it on the market. If you’re someone who needs the latest gadget the day it comes out, look no further. – Jack

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

My favourite thing from this past month was actually Chickpea as well, but seeing as James has already mentioned him, I’ll settle for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Beyond the heads you turn for whipping this bad boy out during a morning commute, this is something which actually provides decent utility (at least in my life). Fully unfolded, it essentially serves as a laptop with the processing power and gorgeous display to back it up – quite handy when you’re in the content producing / procrastination game like I am. Folded, despite how thick it is, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is surprisingly ergonomic. – Garry

OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M ‘No Time To Die’ Edition

Ever since I wore the new Seamaster Diver 300M to a black-tie event in 2018, I’ve been hooked on the latest generation of OMEGA’s sportiest dive watch. Despite the 25th James Bond film being delayed yet again (seriously?), Daniel Craig’s personally designed ‘No Time To Die’ Edition of the Seamaster Diver 300M immediately had my attention. The 42mm grade 2 titanium casing sits on a titanium mesh bracelet and sports a ‘tropical bronze’ treatment for the dial and the bezel. Trying it on the wrist in Bondi last week almost had me reaching for my wallet; it’s vintage feel and surprisingly lightweight presence makes this a compelling piece for fans of both brands – John

One Drop Brewing Co. – Raspberry & Vanilla Smoothie Sour (8.7% ABV)

I discovered these sesh bombs at one of Botany’s finest establishments, One Drop Brewing Co. After sampling a whole variety of their ever-changing selection – ranging from Strawberry Milkshake Stouts to every manner of Wonker-esque delights imaginable – like the third act of a one night stand, I knew what was coming home with me: an entire slab of Raspberry & Vanilla Smoothie Sours. A concoction which tastes exactly what it sounds like and, as the BH office has learned this past week, will likely knock you on your ass. – Garry
