GoPro, the action camera goliath that invented the category and have dominated the space ever since, might finally have some serious competition.

Part of the very well respected Y Combinator startup incubator, REVL, with their team of ex Sikorsky, NASA, and HP engineers, have just launched the Indiegogo campaign for their Arc camera.

Claiming to be the world’s smartest action camera, the Arc sets out to solve the two biggest problems with action cams today. Stabilisation and footage editing. Sporting both physical and electronic image stabilisation built into the camera, as well as a smartphone app which automatically determines your best footage and enables you to share it quickly and easily, it looks like they might be onto a winner.

The Arc shoots in 4K, is waterproof up to 3 metres, has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and sports a battery that gives it 90 minutes of life in 4K.

The camera is available on Indiegogo for US$379 and will ship in December 2016. Check out the clip up top to see it in action.
