Mumbai Airport Breaks World Record With 969 Flights In 24 Hours

Mumbai is one of the largest airports in the world, with traffic that would often make Los Angeles jealous. Well they now have a ridiculous achievement under their belt. With the surplus of flights created by budgets airlines and India poised to be the third largest aviation market behind China and the US, the nation’s largest city was always going to bear the brunt of the action.

The airport has managed to break the world record for most flights handled in a 24-hour period operating only one runway at any given point of time. With 969 flights on the record, it signals Mumbai’s movement towards their goal of a 1000 flights per day which will manage 400 million plus passengers per year. The structure of the facilities is due to a criss-cross runway formation along with lack of space for further expansion.
