Over the weekend, seemingly out of the blue, the previous record set for the highest house price in Australia was smashed. Scott Farquhar, who co-founded mega tech company Atlassian, purchased the Elaine estate in Sydney's Point Piper for a cool $70 million plus. This meant that it has beaten the previous record set by another Sydney mansion, La Mer, which was sold in 2015 by then owner James Packer.
Elaine is now officially Australia's most expensive house, after previously being owned by the Fairfax family continuously for over 126 years. It sits right on the water in one of the most exclusive suburbs in all of Australia, boasting 6986 square metres of property with a tennis court and unparalleled views of the harbour.
Atlassian's founding duo were valued at $4.6 billion last year due to the company's successful float on the US stock market, so the choice of property is an obvious upgrade. With Scott being just 37 years of age, you still have a couple of years to catch up and break his record.
