We all saw the massive, somewhat doubtful announcement that Kanye West would run for the 2020 US Presidential Candidacy. Looking at the state of the current pool of presidential hopefuls, including Donald Trump, Kanye seems like he might actually have a shot. Months have passed since that VMA announcement and the legitimacy of it seems to be increasing as every day goes by. The New Yorker's September 14th cover even featured an illustrated imagined future where Kanye wins.
This coupled with hundreds of t-shirts, campaign posters and videos made by random people after announcement, shows there is interest, either in a supporting or sarcastic manner. One person who is actually in a position to judge Kanye's hopes, Obama, seems to be in his corner. When Kanye came through to perform at the Democratic National Committee Event in San Francisco, Obama had a few words to say about the candidacy before he stepped on stage:
"First of all, you got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show… Second important tip: Saying that you have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy? That’s what’s known as off-message in politics. You can’t say something like that. A lot of people have lost their congressional seats saying things like that… And number three: Do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be president? That’s cray."
So it seems like Ye' has Obama backing him for his presidential campaign. Kanye even managed to return the favour, passing on some new Yeezy Boosts to the current President.
Who knows maybe we will actually see Kanye become president in 2020. Can't wait to see how he goes about trying to get there.
