OMEGA’s ‘Speedmaster X-33 Regatta’: The Timepiece Behind NZ’s America’s Cup Win

If you didn’t already know, Emirates Team New Zealand just made sailing history by winning the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda. With an epic effort the Kiwis managed to secure the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Finals, allowing them to advance to the America’s Cup Match against Oracle Team USA. From there they were able to blitz the competition, ensuring a smooth overall victory for the crew.

A key part of their win was solid timing and with OMEGA being the Official Timekeeper for the team, they definitely had the best of the best. The luxury watchmaker was able to provide a specially-made piece for racing, The Speedmaster X-33 Regatta ETNZ, helping them to slide right onto the podium.

The watch features a smart Regatta function which allowed the crew to time the crucial five-minute countdown to the start of each race. This process utilized a singular red button and series of alarms, each with their own recognizable ringing sequence, to ensure elite precision. The analogue and digital readings of the X-33 also helped Emirates Team New Zealand to track their progress easily once the race began.

The features (plus an awesome red, white and blue New Zealand colourway) truly embody the story of the Emirates Team’s victory, really setting apart the offering from the rest. The Speedmaster X-33 Regatta ETNZ definitely came into it’s own on the Bermudan sea, continuing OMEGA’s longstanding support of the team.
