Golf icon Tiger Woods has been rushed to hospital after a horrific car crash wherein fire-fighters and paramedics were required to use the “jaws of life” for extraction.

As a direct result of this freak motoring incident, Woods is currently undergoing surgery for the injuries he has sustained.

“Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries,” says Mark Steinberg, sports agent to the 15-time major tournament winner.

“He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support.”

“We have been made aware of Tiger Woods’ car accident today,” reads the statement issued by the PGA.

“We are awaiting further information when he comes out of surgery. On behalf of the PGA TOUR and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers.”

Woods was in Los Angeles for a two-day shoot with Golf Digest and GOLFTV – the latter of which he has an endorsement contract – after hosting the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera over the weekend (where he presented the trophy). He is believed to have been travelling for Day 2 of said shoot when the accident occurred.

According to the LA Times, Woods was driving at a “high rate of speed” before he lost control of his Genesis GV80 and crossed the central divider, rolling multiple times off the road, before finally coming to a stop on its side.

Aerial images and footage of the scene depict the front of the SUV crumpled up with debris strewn around the site. Initially, due to the severity of the crash, Woods’ condition was “moderate to critical”; CBS has since indicated his status has been downgraded to “non-life-threatening”.

This marks the third car crash where Tiger Woods has been involved. In 2009, during the early morning after Thanksgiving, he had famously driven his SUV over a fire hydrant and into a tree.

Shortly after, his infidelity was revealed, prompting corporate sponsors to distance themselves from the pro golfer. Woods was then admitted to a rehabilitation clinic in Mississippi and would not return to golf for five months.

More recently, around mid 2017, Florida police found Woods asleep behind the wheel of a car haphazardly parked along the side of the road.
