UFC 243 Is Coming To Sydney – Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya In The Works

— 1 May 2019

New Zealand born Aussie Robert Whittaker is finally set to defend his undisputed middleweight championship this year, and if reports are to believed, it will happen right here in Sydney, Australia for UFC 243.

As MMA DNA and BJ Penn report, UFC 243 is set to be held at the recently opened Bankwest Stadium in Sydney on October 6, with Whittaker taking on Nigerian-born New Zealand interim middleweight champion “The Last Stylebender” Israel Adesanya.

The epic fight between undisputed champ Whittaker and undefeated Adesanya will be the biggest Australian/New Zealand MMA clash in the sport’s history, so holding the event in Sydney makes total sense.

As previously mentioned, this will be Whittaker’s first official title defence after his split decision defeat of Yoel Romero at UFC 225. That fight was meant to be for the championship belt, but due to Romero missing weight, was made a non-title bout. During this time Adesanya has kept himself busy with four fights resulting in four wins, defeating Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum.

There’s been no word on the makeup of the undercard but expect this one to be chock full of top-notch fights for an event shaping up as one of the biggest nights in Australian/New Zealand MMA history.
