Hangover Cure Successfully Tested In Finland

At this hour of the unholiest day, there will undoubtedly be a few weekend warriors out there battling the direct consequences of their Saturday and Sunday shenanigans. But as of now, salvation is within reach for us all, brothers and sisters of the sesh, with Finnish researchers believing they have actually discovered a hangover cure backed by science.

According to a study published by this crack team from the University of Helsinki and the University of Eastern Finland, a 1,200 milligram dose of amino acid L-cysteine was found to reduce both alcohol-induced nausea and headaches. An additional 600 milligram dose after that was found to help alleviate alcohol-induced stress and anxiety.

But the good news doesn’t end there. In addition to being an after-the-fact type fix, researchers have indicated that dosing L-cysteine also reduces “the need of drinking the next day”. Meaning we could also be looking at a cure for alcohol dependency and addiction altogether.

As per the study’s official conclusion:

L-cysteine would reduce the need of drinking the next day with no or less hangover symptoms: nausea, headache, stress, and anxiety. Altogether, these effects of L-cysteine are unique and seem to have a future in preventing or alleviating these harmful symptoms as well as reducing the risk of alcohol addiction.

While this breakthrough in the centuries-long crusade for a hangover cure is certainly cause for celebration – we’ll let you decide in what manner – it’s unclear when fully-approved doses of L-cysteine will be available to purchase on pharmacy shelves, over the counter, or otherwise. While it has no known side effects, the supplement has been known to decrease the potency of certain drugs – so keep in mind there are still some remaining factors to consider.
