Presented in partnership with Johnnie Walker.

Almost exactly a year ago now the House of Johnnie Walker released two extremely popular drams as part of their Blender's Batch project; the Espresso Roast and Rum Cask finished scotch whiskies.

Both favourites of ours and with pleasant aftertastes that were hard to forget, the new year hails the arrival of the latest addition to the experimental series, the Johnnie Walker Blender's Batch Sweet Peat.

Sweet Peat Johnnie Walker-3

The Sweat Peat has inadvertently become the curious lovechild of the smoky trend taking the industry by storm at present, born at the intersection where both smoke and sweetness collide. The unexpected mix of peated smoke for visceral whisky fans comes to the surface of the palate first, followed by a smooth caramel for those who enjoy a dabble of the sweeter things in life.

The heart of the Sweet Peat blend is a whisky from the island distillery of Caol Ila, purposefully chosen for its hidden marriage of both smokiness and sweetness. Speyside malts including Cardhu complement the core flavours with hints of fresh fruits like apple, orange and pineapple. In case it wasn't sweet enough already, drops from Glendullan, aged in sherry casks, bring additional sweetness with some rich, fruity notes and balance.
