Undeniably, the world's best picnic.

It's not every day, actually not any day (for 99.999% of the world's population), that you get whisked away to one of Australia's best hotels, in a helicopter, to drink a handful of Krug's finest creations. Fortunately, BH was part of a select few who were, to celebrate the launch of a very special partnership between the house of Krug and Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley - the Krug Picnic.

Available exclusively to guests staying at the resort, Champagne enthusiasts will be transported by four-wheel drive to a secluded location in the remote National Park where they can enjoy a complete Champagne and food immersion. The experience features a bespoke gourmet picnic of Victor Churchill charcuterie, Maroochydore king prawns and fresh lobster created by Executive Chef Nancy Kinchela and developed in collaboration with Krug Maison. Complementing the local and seasonal produce is Krug's Grande Cuvée 166ème Édition, a stunning blend of over 140 wines from 10 different years with 7 years of ageing.

Krug's innovative direction with their Edition wines sees each bottle given a unique reference number. It's not an official vintage, however, each of the numbers can be inputted into a Krug application to trace the exact composition and origin of the grapes within the bottle. Krug President & CEO, Maggie Henríquez, was on hand to give me a demonstration and it's a compelling addition to their already world-class product, providing additional value, prestige and appeal through the individually numbered bottles.

Continuing the romance of the occasion, Maggie presented what could only be described as the who's who of Krug's portfolio, letting our lips savour some of the greatest Champagnes ever bottled, Krug Clos du Mesnil 2002, Krug 2002 and Krug 2004. As a lover of Champagne, it was an unforgettable day and to follow the tastings with a lunch in the wilderness, accompanied by bottomless Krug Grande Cuvée 166ème Édition and Krug Rosé 21ème Édition (what a brilliant wine), before being choppered back into Sydney was just absurd.
