With the passing of iconic The Soprano's star James Gandolfini in 2013, the idea of a sequel to the legendary HBO television series became more or less impossible.
Following news that writer David Chase had agreed to a prequel, 19-year-old Michael Gandolfini was soon confirmed to appear as a younger version of the New Jersey mob boss.
“The movie will deal with the tensions between the blacks and whites at the time in the era of the Newark riots, and Tony Soprano will be part of this, but as a kid" Chase told Deadline.
Michael spoke of his role taking the reigns of the iconic character, "It's a profound honour to continue my dad's legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano. I'm thrilled that I am going to have the opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible company of talent he has assembled."
Gandolfini will star alongside Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga in the prequel titled 'Newark', which is slated for a September 5, 2020 release. Take a look at the man on set last week as Tony Soprano.
