  • The official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming blockbuster, War Machine, has been released.

  • Filmed in Victoria, the sci-fi action thriller is set to land on March 6.

Sometimes, after a long week tapping away at your desk, the last thing you want to watch is a work of cinematic genius that requires a minor in film studies to make sense of. For anyone partial to the occasional low-brow Hollywood blockbuster – the kind that dedicates more screen time to explosions than dialogue – then clear your Friday night, because Netflix has dropped the official trailer for War Machine.

Starring Alan Ritchson of Reacher fame, it follows 81, a hard-edged Army Ranger candidate in the final stage of selection. The setup is simple: an elite team heads into a supposedly controlled training exercise, but as you might have already guessed, the exercise turns into a full-blown fight for survival against an “unimaginable threat” that’s not from this world.

Backing Ritchson is a properly stacked cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Blake Richardson, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber. Quaid’s presence alone suggests there’ll be a few “listen up” moments before the wheels come off.

Directing the film is Australian Patrick Hughes, who knows his way around slick, high-octane mayhem thanks to his work directing The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Expendables movies, and interestingly, War Machine was shot in his home state of Victoria. The film is produced by Todd Lieberman and Alexander Young (Hidden Pictures), alongside Hughes and Greg McLean (HUGE FILM).

The trailer leans into tight teamwork, rising panic, and that sweet spot where military precision meets sci-fi chaos. If you like your action fast, loud, and not requiring too much brainpower, this one’s lining up nicely.

War Machine streams on Netflix from March 6.
