Nike’s Latest Silhouette Is a Fusion Of Two 90’s Classics

— Updated on 15 June 2021

Never one to shy away from mixing things up, Nike has just dropped details on it’s latest silhouette dropping at the start of February: the Air Max 270. A fusion of two 90’s classics, the Air Max 93 & Air Max 180, the new design will be Nike’s first lifestyle shoe to utilise 100% Air technology, something typically reserved for run shoes.

Designed by the Nike Air design team led by Senior Creative Director at Nike Sportswear Dylan Raasch, the sleek new silhouette is set to be lightweight, form-fitting and athletic in design, owing to its 93 & 180 lineage, both of which were originally released in 1991. The 270 will also be the first Air Max with a 32mm heel, adding extra cushioning and responsiveness and making it the tallest Air Max ever.

In addition, the newest Air Max’s “270” moniker is a reference to the fact that its outsole features 270 degrees of wrap-around Air at the heel, another nod to its 180 pedigree. Easily one of the cleanest releases we’ve seen in quite some time, the Air Max 270 is set to drop in Australia over at Nike’s website on February 1st in the white/red colourway pictured at the top. The OG teal colourway pictured above—clearly directly inspired by the original “hero” colourway of the Air Max 93—will then drop on Air Max Day, or March 26th, which commemorates the day the first-ever Air Max sneaker was released back in 1987.

Stay tuned for more details.
