Longines HydroConquest Green Arrives With Lustworthy Dial

During an interview with Longines CEO Walter von K√§nel at the launch of last year’s Master Moonphase in Taipei, I was privy to a tidbit of information I most certainly wasn’t meant to hear – a Longines HydroConquest Green was on the way.

With the popularity of green sports watches reaching stratospheric heights, the decision to release the HydroConquest with a Green bezel and dial was the next logical move for Longines. Not only did the brand launch the recently updated model in a new colourway, but they also unveiled a Boutique Edition alongside it, with a vertically brushed ceramic dial (the same ceramic compound debuted in the HydroConquest Ceramic) in a more vibrant green hue and a silicon balance spring for improved accuracy. It also arrives in a special presentation box with a rubber strap and bracelet.

Before you enquire about the HydroConquest Boutique Edition (RRP $3,275) – it’s sold out. However, it’s not all bad news, because the non-boutique exclusive Longines HydroConquest Green is $1,100 cheaper and arrives in either a 41mm or 43mm case. I also prefer the lighter, military khaki, green.

The HydroConquest Green runs the same ceramic bezel and technical specs as the Longines HydroConquest Grey (Ref. L3.781.4.76.9), which include the brand’s L.888 time and date movement, developed in-house by ETA, with 64 hours of power reserve, 300m of water resistance and a very attractive price point of $2,175.

Where it differs, is the dial. Not just in colour but also finish, opting for a subdued matte as opposed to the gleaming sunburst dials on the Grey and Navy iterations.

I expressed my admiration for the 41mm when we featured the handsome Grey HydroConquest last year and while my preference stands, the 43mm wears a lot smaller on the wrist than it sounds, which is exciting for those who prefer a bigger case but still want something classic and understated.

Naturally, the Longines HydroConquest Green presents more formally on its steel bracelet, which is a triumph at the price point, however, the Green sings on the matching matte rubber strap. I mentioned the word military above and on the wrist, in the rubber, there’s an undeniable Jason Bourne meets Lone Survivor vibe.

And if that’s not your jam, it’s just as appealing as a competent, everyday sports watch with personality, the perfect companion for all tasks and Aussie conditions.

The non-Boutique Edition HydroConquest Green isn’t sold out but you will have to rush if you want one, as local supply is limited.
