Steeped in form-meets-function history, Montblanc has never been a brand to shy away from punctuating the ordinary. Their new Sydney flagship, on the corner of King and George St, is no exception.
Situated in the historic 396 George St (built c. 1860), the space leans into its surroundings rather than glossing over them. Original iron pillars, exposed brickwork and structural trusses remain proudly visible โ along with a black-and-white treatment to the facade.
Itโs a fitting overlay for a Maison thatโs built its reputation on heritage since 1906.

Inside, clients can find the broadest assortment of Montblanc products in Australia โ from leather goods and accessories (including a belt customisation desk), to stationery, fragrance and watches.
The prime attraction, of course, is the vast array of of writing instruments. From special editions (like the new Romeo and Juliet collection), to special collabs (like the Wes Anderson Schreiberling), to the entire Meisterstรผck range.
Climbing the stairs to the first floor, clients pass the โshared breathโ muralโ artist Sam Pauletto’s gum tree rendering of Jazz Money’s poem. Reaching the VIP area, you’d be forgiven for forgetting you’re in a retail space up here โ the airy, light-filled library shows various High Artistry writing instruments, inviting clients to put pen to paper.

A recessed VIP room designed like a Montblanc ink bottle features cases of Collectable writing instruments and Minerva timepieces, aroundย ‘The Desk’ designed by Marco Tomasetta. Even the Montblanc postbox is something to write home about (they’ll mail your postcards for you). Patrons are encouraged to sit and write at the desk, for a pen-chooses-the-writer kind of ceremony.
Canny visitors will spot the subtle Montblanc symbols throughout the boutique โ from the three-ring Meisterstรผck motif on table-legs and door handles, to fountain pen nib detailing on the walls, hand-carved figure eight panelling, mountain-inspired paper chandeliers, and ink spill inspired carpeting. It is, simply put, a space dedicated to the art of writing.
The Sydney flagship is now open at 396 George St, Sydney.
