Perched gracefully along the shores of the Mornington Peninsula, Mori House is a contemporary homage to the quintessential beach shack.

Designed to be the ideal retreat for anyone keen on lapping up the coastal lifestyle, its concrete and timber construction is finished without ornamentation; almost as if to take a step back and let the surrounding landscape shine.

As you might expect from such a meticulously thought-out and well-executed home by architects MA+Co, Mornington Peninsula’s Mori House has already garnered plenty of critical architectural praise, with a Commendation for Residential Architecture from the Australian Institute of Architects. In total, it features five separate structures including the main residence with a master bedroom and bunk room, two guest bungalows, a studio, plus a garage with storage.

Within its walls, Mori House is carefully segmented into four main zones (both intimate spaces and communal areas). While the layout might be sparsely finished for some of your tastes, there are multiple bedrooms and even a tatami room that highlights the Japanese influence behind its design.

The transition from the interior to the wild beauty of the outdoors is seamless, facilitated by generous openings and patios. A dramatic external staircase leads you to the rooftop, offering panoramic views across the surrounding tea trees to Port Phillip Bay and beyond.

The design of Mori House leverages passive principles to optimise natural light and ventilation, culminating in a residence that embodies sustainable beachside living. Mornington Peninsula may be home to plenty of spectacular properties, but this is certainly one of the vaunted area’s most unique homes.
