  • The building that houses Melbourne’s legendary Revolver Upstairs is heading to auction.

  • Located at 229-231 Chapel Street and 24 Macquarie Street, Prahran, the sale is scheduled to take place Friday, November 14th.

Everyone knows Revs, even if you’ve never been.

As one of Australia’s most famed nightclubs, it’s been a destination for late-night shenanigans, and now, the building that houses Revolver Upstairs is up for sale – heading to auction with an expected price of around $15 million.

The hedonistic heartbeat spans 1,287 square metres of land across both 229–231 Chapel Street and 24 Macquarie Street in Prahran. Within the heritage-listed complex, prospective owners can expect to find 2,686 square metres of fully-leased space across more than 30 commercial tenancies, including creative studios, offices, retail, co-working, meeting rooms, as well as a coffee bar.

About a quarter of all this belongs to Revs and its cult Thai canteen, Colonel Tan’s. Operating since 1997 with a rare 24-hour liquor licence and a roll call of alumni that includes Snoop Dogg, Fatboy Slim, Fred Again, Bicep, The Avalanches, The Presets, and plenty more between the infamous cage and bandroom.

The forthcoming sale includes a vast loft above the club with nine-metre ceilings and views over Chapel Street, the longtime home/studio of founder and Thai pop star Tan Punturaumporn (who originally founded Revolver with Camillo Ippoliti).

Originally built in 1914 as part of the Colosseum Building, the property is a remarkably intact slab of pre-WWI boom architecture with a striking Ionic facade; and over the decades, it’s served as the site of a department store, college, along with a parachute factory (just to name a few).

The auction of 229-231 Chapel Street and 24 Macquarie Street, Prahran, takes place at 4:30 PM on Friday, November 14th. Lease details are available to qualified parties via the agents at Christie’s International Real Estate.
