- The next MacBook Pro won’t just have an M6 chipset, but also a full-blown touchscreen interface after much historical resistance to providing one from Apple.
- Bloomberg insider Mark Gurman broke the news, with a release date reportedly slated for sometime between late 2026 and early 2027.
- This effectively marks Apple’s first earnest attempt at a touchscreen integration for its MacBook line since the failed (and since phased-out) Touch Bar in 2016.
Before the world has even gotten a chance to digest the unveiling of its new 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro, the internet is already abuzz with fresh reports that Apple is – at long last – producing a touchscreen iteration of the MacBook Pro.
According to Bloomberg‘s insider, Mark Gurman, this “gamechanger” is slated to be released sometime between late 2026 and early 2027 – parallel to when the next-gen M6 silicone chipset is set to be launched.

Gurman asserts that, similar to the iPhone and iPad Pro, Apple’s touchscreen display would leverage streamlined OLED technology in a first for the MacBook Pro. But the most significant design overhaul since the M1 Pro and M1 Max machines debuted in 2021 doesn’t stop there.
Aside from the promise of a thinner and lighter form factor, Apple is apparently tinkering away at a reinforced hinge and screen hardware to address the ongoing issue that touchscreen laptops face with displays getting pushed back when contact is made.

If this intel is to be believed, then we can also expect a hole-punch camera (similar to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island), and kiss goodbye to the controversial notch.
As for a projected price point, given the OLED display and touchscreen capabilities, the high-end ‌MacBook Pro‌ models will likely be “a few hundred dollars” more expensive than the current top-end ‌Apple laptops. For reference, the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 starts from $2,499 here in Australia, while the 16-inch equivalent has an entry cost of $3,999.
Keep an eye out here for future updates.
