  • Armed with an Eras dial that lets you command an array of decade-specific effects, the Fujifilm Mini Evo Cinema has soundly earned our interest.
  • This statement piece even takes the form of a classic Super 8 camera, and arrives less than a year after the equally retro – and equally fun – Fujifilm X Half.
  • The Fujifilm Mini Evo Cinema will initially be released as a Japan-only exclusive with zero word on domestic availability or pricing (standby for future updates).

Fujifilm’s enduring romance with the magic of film – and the simple pleasure of a printed photo – has reached new levels of analogue charm with the Instax Mini Evo Cinema: a hybrid instant camera that wears its nostalgia on its sleeve.

This hot new release takes the familiar blueprint of the Fujifilm Evo series – digital capture combined with instant print – while throwing short video recording into the mix.

Taking the form of those vintage Super 8s, compact vertical grip design and all, users can record up to 15 seconds of video – viewable on the rear LCD before selecting a favourite frame to print out. Said print comes with a QR code that links to the video on your phone, so you can quite literally hand someone a tangible memory that unlocks the moment in motion.

The real headliner, however, is the Instax Mini Evo Cinema’s Eras dial that lets you select decade-specific visual effects. Think the grain & warmth of the 1930s, the saturated colours of later decades, and the blown-out flash quality of the early noughties, applied to imagery married to unique audio cues.

Along with that tactile click of the dial, it’s as if Fujifilm has managed to bottle the feeling of twisting old film reels, and distilled it into the modern camera.

In terms of connectivity, aside from printouts and QR codes, you can also sync up content to your phone via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

The Fujifilm Mini Evo Cinema is set to drop as a Japan-only exclusive first from January 30th, 2026. Currently, there’s no word on domestic availability or pricing, but if it performs as promised, and proves to be as big a hit as we’re anticipating, don’t be surprised if it washes up on local shores.
