Google has been making some of the most interesting smartphones of the past few years with its Pixel series. Innovative features for each new flagship seem to always have something to do with the Google Photos app and the use of AI-powered features to unlock different ways to engage with content. We saw it in the recent Pixel 7 lineup with a โFace Unblurโ tool and the widely discussed โMagic Eraserโ that could instantly get rid of any unwanted photo bombers.
Now, weโre reportedly looking at the next evolution of all that AI-driven technology. According to APK code for the Google Photos app discovered by 9to5Google, the Google Pixel 8 lineup could introduce a landmark Video Unblur tool so users can simply sharpen videos along with a suite of other video editing tools and filters. Theoretically, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be the first smartphones in the world to debut such a feature, using the Tensor chipโs advanced machine learning to โfixโ any blurry videos in an instant.
Various filters and video effects should also be making their way to the new flagship Google Pixel phones, although itโs unclear whether or not these will be made available for older models as well. In any case, 9to5Google was able to uncover code for several new filters that users can add on top of their recordings, from VHS and Super 8 to Polaroid.
The video effects should essentially be much more accurate and detailed with how far machine learning has come over the past few years. Video Unblur, however, is a bit of an unexpected feature and itโll most likely be one of the major features Google uses to market the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro when they are hopefully released later this year.
So far there hasnโt been much news regarding new flagship smartphones in 2023. Weโve already gone hands-on with the super powerful new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (read our review here) and there are always iPhone 15 rumours swirling around every few weeks.
