Sonos Officially Enters The Headphone Game

— 23 May 2024

Premier home audio brand Sonos — renowned for pioneering multi-room audio and Dolby Atmos spatial audio — has just announced the Ace Headphones.

With an entire suite of features to please the audiophile crowd — lossless audio, ANC, wind block technology, aware mode, spatial audio, wear detection, USB-C + 3.5mm ports, and most importantly, integration with a Sonos home speaker system — this marks the company’s inaugural venture into personal audio.

The “TV Swap” function allows you to toggle between listening with a compatible Sonos soundbar and the wireless over-ear headphones; perfect for a private listening experience in a must-be-quiet household (unless the baby also wants to watch Shooter).

In what is dubbed as “TrueCinema” technology, the Ace leverages your soundbar to map out the acoustics of any given room and relays it to your device for a genuinely headphone-less experience. The EQs are also adjustable through the Sonos app.

Arriving in Sonos Black and Soft White, the Ace Headphones are made from environmentally friendly materials, including plush upper padding. In other words, they’re made to last — even the earcups are replaceable (and magnetically attached for ease of replacement). Comfortable over glasses and on long commutes, they’re also impressively sleek.

Depending on the mode, the headphones boast a total battery life of approximately 30 hours; and impressively enough, three hours of listening from just three minutes of quick charge. As for the matter of when you’ll be able to get your hands on a set, the Sonos Ace Headphones will be available to purchase for $699 from June 5th, 2024.
