  • Ferrari has just given the world a first look at its debut sailing yacht, the Hypersail.
  • It will be the world’s first 100-foot monohull with a foil on the keel, and is designed to fly on three points of contact and be energy self-sufficient.
  • Constructed in Italy, Ferrari is promising that both its launch and initial sea trials will take place in 2026.

After teasing the project at the beginning of last year, Ferrari has officially offered a first glimpse at its upcoming Hypersail yacht, a 100-foot (30.5m) flying ocean racer that wants to rewrite the rules of offshore competition. Designed by Guillaume Verdier and overseen by Team Principal Giovanni Soldini, the Hypersail is a fusion of Ferrari’s automotive chops with cutting edge of naval innovation.

What makes it such a special project? Ferrari is looking to create the world’s first monohull to fly on three contact points – a canting-keel foil, a rudder foil, and alternating lateral foils. The Hypersail will also be entirely energy self-sufficient, drawing power from solar panels, wind generators and kinetic systems, with no combustion engine supporting its foils, keel or onboard computers.

Achieving this level of autonomy in challenging conditions has demanded an almost obsessive optimisation of every component, which has already yielded nine patents, with several more pending. And as many Ferrari fans have hoped, there is plenty of technological transfer between the brand’s automotive and nautical divisions, especially around aerodynamics, energy efficiency, and power management.

“Hypersail is a new challenge that pushes us to go beyond our boundaries and expand our technological horizons,” said Ferrari Chairman John Elkann, in a statement. “At the same time, it perfectly aligns with Ferrari’s tradition, drawing inspiration from our Hypercar, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Designing a yacht for offshore racing is perhaps the ultimate expression of endurance.”

The Ferrari Hypersail yacht is currently being built in Italy, with the team promising both its launch and initial sea trials to take place in 2026.
