  • Renowned tuning company Alpina has been fully welcomed into the fold by BMW Group.
  • BMW originally acquired Alpina back in 2022, but under the condition that the latter would operate independently until the end of 2025.
  • BMW now plans to launch Alpina as an “exclusive standalone brand” alongside BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce.

It’s official: as of January 1st, 2026, BMW ALPINA has become an exclusive standalone brand under the BMW Group umbrella – not a trim line, but a proper marque.

As many of you may recall, the final car Alpina produced as an independent operation was the B8 GT – based on the four-door BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. Limited to just 99 examples, this tribute to Burkard Bovensiepen, Alpina’s founder, arrived with an immaculate interior and a throaty 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet.

We’ve yet to receive any details about the cars Alpina will soon be producing as a full-fledged member of the BMW family, but the brief is clear: retain that signature Alpina balance of serious performance and silk-glove ride comfort, wrapped in unmistakable detailing and a catalogue of bespoke options.

In other words, if you liked the B8 GT, you’re probably going to love what’s on the way.

There’s even a new wordmark to set the tone, promising an approach that’s clean, calm, and confident, while also nodding to Alpina’s asymmetrical 70s lettering. Essentially, a bridge between the brand’s storied heritage and what comes next.

Beyond the rigorous standards of materials and craftsmanship that Alpina fans have come to expect, BMW is also promising a “remarkable portfolio of bespoke options” that’ll likely include unique paints, tailored interiors, and much more.

So for anyone worried the thrill-chasing DNA of Alpina would become another page in the long history of almost-forgotten automakers… fear not. We’re in safe – and extremely capable – hands.
