Ford is farewelling its iconic GT series with the announcement of the 2023 Ford GT Mk IV, a track-only supercar of which there will only be 67 examples produced. Made entirely by hand, the Ford GT Mk IV swan song draws inspiration from the Le Mansโwinning 1967 GT Mk IV car that was driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt, and will only be sold to approved Ford clients with the eye-watering RRP of US$1.7 million (AU$2.5 million).
The GT is an incredibly important car in the American automakerโs history, which is why Ford has been sending it off with more than a couple of final special-edition launches over the last year. This run of pulse-quickening racecars began at the end of last year with a special edition boasting a 1964 prototype-themed livery, followed by the gold, red and white tribute to the Ford Mk I prototypes of the โ60s at the beginning of 2022.
Ford wasnโt done, however, then announcing the Holman Moody Edition that celebrated a historic 1966 Ford Le Mans podium sweep, before another special edition vehicle as recently as October that gave a nod to the class-winning GT from 2016. Now, weโve reached the very last GT of its kind in the Ford GT Mk IV that the manufacturer promises to be the โfinal track-only model [that] boasts the superior aerodynamics, extreme performance and razor-sharp handling that befits Americaโs original Le Mans winning car.โ

As you might expect from such a performance-focused car, thereโs a lot going on under the bonnet. Namely, the specially-engineered twin-turbo Ford EcoBoost engine thatโs capable of delivering no less than 800 horsepower, which is paired with a bespoke racing gearbox. The technological advancements donโt stop there, as the final Ford GT Mk IV arrives with Multimaticโs Adaptive Spool Valve race suspension that supports the long wheelbase and carbon fibre โLong Tailโ racing body.
All 67 examples of the Ford GT Mk IV will be handbuild at the Multimatic facility in Markham, Ontario, with Ford set to make its owner selections in the first quarter of โ23 and deliveries expected to begin by the Q3 of next year. They might cost $2.5 million each, but thereโs no way this final run of Ford GTs isnโt going to be in extremely hot demand. If youโve got a shot of picking one of these up, youโd better move quickly.
