- McLaren is looking to challenge Porsche’s Cayenne and Ferrari’s Purosangue with its own SUV.
- Expected to hit dealerships by 2028, the McLaren P47 will mark the automaker’s first four-door model with five seats.
- While confirmed details are still TBA – including specs, pricing, and a specific launch date – we have an early approximation of what the P47 SUV will entail.
In just a few short years, McLaren’s model lineup will no longer be supercar-exclusive as reports indicate an SUV is on the way.
Codenamed P47, not only will it hail the British marque’s first-ever SUV – a direct response to the Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus, Ferrari Purosangue, and Aston Martin DBX (along with the high-end models of BMW and Audi) – but also its first-ever four-door/five-seater.

According to Automotive News, it’ll apparently house a turbocharged V8 engine in a hybrid setup (not plug-in) with all-wheel drive, riding on 24-inch wheels. Those in attendance at the exclusive unveiling of a clay model form at a dealer meeting in the UK this past week noted it sports a similar profile to Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo GT with “sculpted and muscular” aerodynamics, a sloping trunk line, and a rear spoiler.
Other key identifiers include a rear diffuser, oversized exhaust tips, front-end air intake, and an indentation that runs along the whip’s spine. While McLaren has yet to confirm the underlying platform, this SUV apparently won’t use the same carbon monocoque chassis as the automaker’s supercars. And as per newly-appointed CEO Nick Collins, it won’t compromise the brand’s performance DNA.

“It has presence and won’t get lost in the exotic SUV segment,” one dealer told Automotive News.
But given McLaren has promised three new models over the next three years, the P47 won’t be the sole fresh arrival: the sporty SUV will join next year’s flagship McLaren W1 hypercar, followed by a two-door, mid-engine coupe internally referred to as the P34 in 2027 – powered by a hybrid V6 engine and priced between the Artura and 750s.
Keep an eye out for the McLaren P47 SUV coming in 2028 – official specs, local pricing, and availability TBA.
