Itโs not often you see an automotive collaboration that stops you in your tracks, but thatโs exactly what MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) and Deus Ex Machina have gone ahead and delivered with the entirely bespoke The Skeg EV and The Machina โ which celebrate surfing culture and performance-focused track cars, respectively.
Int The Skeg, weโve got a MINI JCW Electric dialled up to 190kW (258hp) and inspired by an oceanside lifestyle. The bodywork lands a vivid yellow and silver finish with wide arches, an illuminated grille, and roof spoiler that โresponds to airflow much like a surfboard rides the contours of a wave.โ

Semi-transparent fibreglass panels shave approximately 15% from the carโs weight, while on the roof, tension straps across the roof nod to strapping down a board, mirrored as accents on the dashboard and the steering wheelโs 6 oโclock spoke. Inside, youโll find tactile analogue controls, as well as fibreglass trays for wetsuits, neoprene bucket seats, and a fibreglass dash.
โIn this extraordinary collaboration, we showcase two vehicles that remind us of motorsport history and the successes of MINI,โ says Holger Hampf, Head of MINI Design. โEvery single detail has been crafted with artisanal precision and expertise. This has resulted in unique characters that are clearly perceived as belonging together through their distinctive design language and use of graphics.โ
Then thereโs The Machina: a 170kW (231hp) MINI JCW that can only be described as a performance-focused track monster. Thereโs a red, white, and black livery, Deus rear lettering, classic widened fenders, as well as four bonnet-mounted lights.
A rear diffuser inspired by the JCW Nordschleife racer manages airflow, while up front, thereโs a custom grille and perforated headlight setup. The cabin sticks to a strict performance playbook, with a five-point harness, raw aluminium floor plates, stripped door cards marked with bold โXโ motifs, waxed fabric dash, and an exposed roll cage.
The collaboration extends to apparel, with a MINI x Deus capsule collection thatโs set to launch on September 8th at IAA Mobility in Munich. The world premiere will occur at the MINI Pavilion on September 4th, where youโll be able to catch the duo on display until September 14th.
