It took roughly €30 million and 22 months for Baltic yachts to build the state of the art 130-foot carbon racing yacht MY SONG but only one night for it to tumble off the deck of a cargo ship into the Balearic Sea.

The 130′ Baltic built MY SONG, owned by Pier Luigi Loro Piana (heir to the Loro Piana dynasty with a net worth of roughly $1.6B), was transporting his pride and joy to Ibiza ahead of her appearance at Pier’s hosted Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta next week.

Scheduled to return to the event as both the defending champion and general belle of the ball, MY SONG was awarded “Most Innovative Yacht of the Year” and “Sailing Yacht of the Year” at the 2017 World Superyacht Awards.

The all-carbon MY SONG, designed by Reichel/Pugh Architects and launched in 2017, featured interchangeable mainsails for cruising or racing with accommodation for six to eight guests and a spectacular deck saloon.

A sad day for fans of the beautiful Maxi, a sadder day for Pier!

MY SONG was salvaged from the coast of Menorca by MCS Marine Claim Services Germany. It was then towed into Palma’s STP shipyard where it was accessed and confirmed to be beyond repair.

James Packer has taken delivery of his new 354ft Benetti superyacht.
