Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have capped off an absolute cracker of a year with juicy contracts to play in next year’s Indian Premier League.

In defiance of all the claims that he’d go “broke” from being “woke,” the Aussie skipper is lending his talents to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for $3.67 million. That comes to approximately $262,000 each game and $10,900 every time he sends down a legal delivery.

For context, Pat Cummins and his national teammates ordinarily pocket roughly $15,000 for Test matches. As pointed out by The Age, effectively, this means he’ll be earning more money bowling two balls in franchise crickets than for “five days of hard work in a baggy green.”

This represents a slight pay rise for Cummins, who landed a $3.16 million contract during the 2020 IPL Auction. And the latest $3.67 million agreement was actually the most expensive contract in IPL history… for exactly 91 minutes until the Kolkata Knight Riders offered Mitchell Starc an even richer deal.

The fast bowler and lower-order batsman’s new contract entails $4.43 million in total. Assuming he makes an appearance in all 14 regular season matches, Starc will be earning $316,429 per match, $79,107 per over, and $13,184 for every legal delivery.

This represents a significant pay rise for Mitchell Starc, who previously signed with the Knight Riders back in 2018 for $1.8 million, but was forced to ride the pine due to injury (right tibial bone fracture).

Between the recent World Test Championship victory, ODI World Cup victory, retaining the Ashes, and getting that Indian Premier League money, 2023 has certainly been a year to remember for the fellas.
