For years, my grooming routine probably resembled the same embarrassingly low-effort daily ritual we all share: a quick trim, line up the beard, and chuck the shaver back in the drawer. Repeat. We all know we can do better; we just have to be nudged in the right direction.
It turns out that can take the form of the all-new Braun Nevo, the brand’s flagship premium electric foil shaver, which claims a shave that’s “perfectly close, perfectly smooth. No compromise.”
Well, after a few weeks in daily rotation, I can safely say it’s fulfilled that particular promise. Here’s what I’ve found.

The Cleaning Station
Now, I should preface this article by saying that hygiene was never really much of a concern during my daily shave. But since using the Braun Nevo and its accompanying cleaning station – that cleans, dries, lubricates, and even charges the shaver at the click of a button – I’ve started to question some of my choices.
Where I used to toss my shaver back in the drawer and forget about it, now it lives on its dock and comes out ready to go every time.

It turns out this matters more than I gave it credit for. A shaver that’s actually looked after lasts longer, so you’re not replacing it as often, and a clean shaver is better for your skin, with fewer bacteria dragged across your face every morning.
Once you’ve had a shaver that maintains itself, going back to the manky one in a drawer feels borderline untenable.
Lining Up A Beard

The Braun Nevo has a slide-out trimmer on one side for lining up the edges of your beard, then the shaver itself to tidy everything up clean. So you can square off the edges and go clean-shaven with one tool, without the need to swap heads – or worse, having to invest in a second device.
For anyone who likes their lines sharp, it’s a great bit of engineering, and it saves you a trip to the barber for the in-between maintenance.
It Feels Premium
The Braun Nevo sits at the higher end of the premium shaver market, but you can almost instantly tell why when you pick it up.
The stainless-steel body is substantial and grippy, with a brushed finish that feels properly engineered rather than the chrome-plated plastic a lot of “premium” shavers try to pass off.

There’s an LED display that tells you your charge and when the head needs replacing, and 60 minutes of cordless run time, with a five-minute quick charge if you’ve left it flat and you’re running late. It’s the kind of object that feels at home on the bench rather than hidden in a cupboard.
The One Catch
If I had to pick a gripe, it’s the charging. The Nevo uses Braun’s own proprietary port rather than USB-C, so you can’t just grab a cable out of your bag and top it up like everything else you own these days.

You’ve got the dock, the travel case, and the included cord, so you’re never really stuck, but in a world where everything runs off the same USB-C, having to carry a specific cable is something that adds an extra step in what is otherwise such a seamless daily ritual.
Still, the model’s quick charge feature means even just five minutes plugged in is more than enough time to get the Nevo back up and running so you’re not stuck waiting like an old EV.
The Verdict
As for the shave itself, the box doesn’t lie: it’s the closest and smoothest I’ve had from an electric in a long time – instead of fighting with yesterday’s stubble clinging on, you’re left with skin that’s genuinely smooth, with noticeably less irritation than I’m used to.

And coming from a normal razor, there’s also the mental adjustment. After all, you spend years being careful, every stroke a small negotiation with a sharp blade, bracing for the nick that ruins your morning.
For the first couple of seconds with the Braun Nevo, that instinct kicks in, and you’re waiting for it. Then it doesn’t come. Once you trust the skin guard, shaving becomes genuinely thoughtless rather than waiting for that sting.
Is it an investment? Yes. But it’s one of those purchases where, once you’ve lived with it, the old way of doing things looks faintly ridiculous. After a few weeks, I won't be going back.
