Without a doubt in 2023, the Rolex Daytona is easily one of the most recognisable and coveted chronographs in the world as a timepiece that isn’t just hard to buy, but one that speaks directly to a legacy of precision timekeeping in motorsports. For the first time since 2016, this icon of the watch-collecting world has received a serious update that spans an updated movement, design refinements and a view into its beating heart for the first time ever.

The 2023 update to the Rolex Daytona collection includes a new reference in platinum, as well as improved models in steel, Everose gold, yellow gold and two-tone. While its diameter remains at 40mm, the profile of its case has been tweaked for a slightly more angular presence on the wrist, serving to emphasise the Cerachrom or precious metal bezel, while the hour markers have been reduced in size and the chronograph subdials have been narrowed for a leaner and more heritage-inspired appearance.

In true Rolex style, the changes aren’t huge but are enough to deliver a noticeably different visual impression, while the biggest change lies beneath the dial in the all-new calibre 4131 that powers the collection and boasts a Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers and 72 hours of power reserve. One of the most exciting changes is the addition of an exhibition caseback to the platinum reference (a rarity in the world of modern Rolex), offering an uninterrupted view of the new movement that features attractive Cotes de Geneve finishing across its bridges.

Despite the updates, the prices of the 2023 Rolex Daytona haven’t changed significantly, with the reference 126500 in steel costing $21,350 and going up to $60,000 for the solid Everose reference 126503. As has been the case in the past, the platinum reference 126506 remains “Price On Request”.
