  • TAG Heuer has launched its latest generation of smartwatches with the Connected Calibre E5.
  • Available in both 40mm and 45mm sizes, the operating system of the smartwatch collection has also been updated.
  • Prices range from $2,350 for the 40mm base model to $3,600 for the Golf Edition.

The โ€˜TAGโ€™ in TAG Heuer isnโ€™t simply a catchy acronym โ€“ Techniques dโ€™Avant Garde is a philosophy that has guided the watchmaker for years, pushing it to innovate in areas other brands wonโ€™t. Perhaps the best example of this is the TAG Heuer Connected watch, which debuted less than a year after Apple launched the first Apple Watch in 2015.

Now, a decade later, weโ€™ve received a new generation of the Swiss watchmakersโ€™ digital offering in the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5, which comes in a fresh 40mm case size (available in polished steel or rose gold PVD) and boasts a range of new and improved features. Itโ€™s been three years since we last saw a new generation of the Connected, and the pace at which this sort of tech develops is only accelerating, making it a welcome new arrival to the brandโ€™s catalogue.

The headlining detail about this collection is the addition of a new 40mm case size โ€“ guaranteed to appeal to an even greater number of people keen on wearing a smartwatch from TAG Heuer. While the existing 45mm size is holding steadfast with its engraved ceramic bezel (available in steel or black sandblasted titanium), the new 40mm models play a clever visual trick by incorporating the bezel directly into the display, printing hour markers on the underside of the sapphire crystal.

There have been a few other minor design tweaks compared to the previous generation, including more ergonomic chronograph pushers, but the most significant changes are happening under the bonnet. Replacing the Google Wear OS that ran older iterations of the Connected, TAG Heuer has gone to the considerable effort of creating its own proprietary operating system (still based on the Android Open Source Project) โ€“ promising a โ€œcleaner interface, improved legibility, and faster, more intuitive navigation.โ€

The Google-sourced operating system was already fit for purpose, though itโ€™s certainly exciting to see TAG Heuer take the next step in smartwatches and a sign of the brandโ€™s commitment to the category. The TAG Heuer OS has been integrated for voice assistants and phone calls, as well as the tick of approval from Apple with MFi (Made for iPhone) certification that ensures consistent, simple compatibility with iPhones.

Another significant step forward with the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 collection is the improved battery life across all models within the family. The 45mm references now support up to three full days of battery life, while the 40mm models are capable of two days of battery life. Additionally, a full dayโ€™s worth of charge is now accessible from just 30 minutes of charging for the 45mm references (and 40 minutes for the 40mm).

As weโ€™ve seen in the past, TAG Heuer has also launched a new Golf Edition โ€“ the most premium model within the new line-up. It now offers more than 40,000 golf course maps from around the world, with a display that shows full hole layouts, auto-scoring functionality, and improved GPS performance.

Our personal favourite of the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 releases is the New Balance Special Edition โ€“ a collaboration that underscores the new possibilities for owners who love running and one that arrives with a pair of TAG Heuer x New Balance FuelCell SC Elite v5 running shoes. Its 40mm Grade-2 titanium case is lightweight and flaunts a black DLC coating, while it also comes with a specially designed strap that combines a rubber base with high-tech textile from a marathon shoeโ€™s inlay, guaranteeing comfort no matter how far youโ€™re running that day.

This collab with New Balance is a deepening of TAG Heuerโ€™s ties to the running world, having also been the Official Timekeeper for the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon and counting two-time Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone among its ambassadors. Itโ€™s unlikely to be a coincidence that Alexandre Arnault, the older brother of TAG Heuerโ€™s former CEO Frederic, ran the 2023 edition of the New York City Marathon in an impressive time of 2:29:18, perhaps planting the seed for this very union.

Itโ€™s an exciting new collection from TAG Heuer that ticks all the right boxes. A new, more universally wearable size, improved battery life, an updated operating system, and a collaboration that looks genuinely cool. Prices for the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 range from $2,350 for the 40mm base model to $3,600 for the Golf Edition.
