Watch Of The Week: TAG Heuer Celebrates A Decade With Red Bull Racing

Ten years of Formula 1 partnership, a fresh 38mm case, and a solar-powered movement make TAG Heuer's latest racing watch one of its most compelling releases of 2026.

There are few relationships in Formula 1 quite as enduring as the one between TAG Heuer and Oracle Red Bull Racing. Since joining forces in 2016, the Swiss watchmaker has enjoyed a front-row seat to one of the most successful periods in the sport's modern history, with four consecutive drivers' championships courtesy of Max Verstappen and a healthy collection of silverware along the way.

And while the partnership has produced no shortage of special-edition watches over the past decade, its latest release might just be one of the most appealing yet.

To celebrate ten years together, TAG Heuer has unveiled the Formula 1 Solargraph x Oracle Red Bull Racing, a compact, colourful new reference that borrows heavily from the team's unmistakable livery, while introducing a little modern technology to one of Swiss watchmaking's most recognisable collections.

The Formula 1 collection has always occupied a rather interesting corner of TAG Heuer's catalogue. First introduced in the 1980s, it was conceived as an accessible entry point into Swiss watchmaking, trading the mechanical complexity of its more expensive siblings for quartz reliability, bright colours, and a healthy dose of motorsport nostalgia.

Four decades later, the formula remains remarkably effective, particularly as collectors rediscover the appeal of smaller, more expressive watches.

The latest release measures a very wearable 38mm across, with a sandblasted stainless steel case and matching three-row bracelet. It's a welcome departure from the oversized racing watches that have dominated the category in recent years, and one that feels especially appropriate for a collection with such strong roots in the 1980s.

The dial is where things get interesting. Finished in a deep, sunray-brushed blue, it takes its colour palette directly from the Red Bull garage, with a vivid red minute track, oversized luminous markers, and a bright yellow central seconds hand. The blue bidirectional TH-Polylight bezel adds another splash of colour, while the original Formula 1-inspired hour hand and shield-shaped indexes provide a welcome connection to the collection's earliest references.

It's certainly not a watch for someone who prefers to fly under the radar, but then again, subtlety has never been much of a priority for Red Bull.

Flip it over and you'll find the team's logo engraved alongside TAG Heuer's, accompanied by a chequered flag motif on the steel caseback. There's also 100 metres of water resistance, a sapphire crystal, and a date window at three o'clock, making this a perfectly capable everyday sports watch beneath all the racing paraphernalia.

But perhaps the most interesting element is what's powering it.

Rather than a conventional battery-powered quartz movement, TAG Heuer has fitted its Solargraph Calibre TH50-00, which converts both natural and artificial light into energy. According to the brand, just one minute of direct sunlight provides enough power for an entire day, while a full charge can keep the watch running for up to ten months in complete darkness.

It's a clever solution for a watch that's designed to be worn regularly, eliminating the inconvenience of routine battery changes without sacrificing the accuracy and practicality that made the original Formula 1 collection so successful.

And at $3,350 here in Australia, it represents a considerably more approachable way into the TAG Heuer universe than many of the brand's increasingly ambitious mechanical chronographs.

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph x Oracle Red Bull Racing (Ref. WBY111F.BA0042) is available in store and online now, complete with special Red Bull Racing packaging.

Ten years, four drivers' championships, and one rather good-looking watch. Not a bad way to celebrate a partnership that's shown very little interest in slowing down.
