  • Tudor has announced the all-new Black Bay 54 โ€œLagoon Blueโ€, arriving with a sand-textured blue dial and polished bezel.
  • The rest of the watch maintains the same specs as the debut Black Bay 54 from 2023.
  • The Tudor Black Bay 54 โ€œLagoon Blueโ€ is available from Tudorโ€™s Authorised Dealers with an Australian RRP of $6,300.

If thereโ€™s one thing you can rely on watch collectors to incessantly argue about, itโ€™s case size. But while the majority of enthusiasts and collectors love a 40mm+ diver, thereโ€™s a vocal group who prefer their watches a little smaller.

As a result, when Tudor debuted the Black Bay 54 in 2023, it was an instant hit thanks to its 37mm diameter, which was directly inspired by Tudorโ€™s first-ever diver from (you guessed it) 1954. Today, the Swiss watchmaker has expanded the Black Bay 54 line-up with the debut of the โ€œLagoon Blueโ€, just the second production reference of the heritage-inspired diver.

Featuring a sand-textured blue dial, itโ€™s made for the summer, and combined with its polished steel bezel, looks to be a proper eye-catcher on the wrist. The Black Bay 54 range represents the smallest offering within the collection, following the original 41mm reference, the hugely popular 39mm Fifty-Eight that debuted in 2018, and the Black Bay 68 that arrived earlier this year.

Under the dials sits the familiar MT5400 movement, which powers several other Tudor favourites, including the Pelagos 39 and Black Bay 925. It delivers a 70-hour power reserve, COSC-certified accuracy of -2/+4 seconds per day, and a silicon hairspring for magnetic resistance.

The marketing material of the โ€œLagoon Blueโ€ might make you think itโ€™s specifically a womenโ€™s watch, but having enjoyed some time wearing The Armouryโ€™s special edition Black Bay 54 (courtesy of Randy Lai), the case size isnโ€™t something you should worry about. Itโ€™s a vintage-inspired watch, and it feels like it on the wrist. However, it doesnโ€™t come with the same worry of wearing a delicate, 70-plus-year-old watch.

The polish of the bezel is another detail that folks might raise an eyebrow over, but unless youโ€™re in the business of keeping your watches in showroom condition, it promises to be a canvas of well-loved wear. Sure, itโ€™ll get scratched up, but so do all watches to some degree, and thatโ€™s especially true for dive watches that you actually get wet.

Itโ€™s a fresh, fun new release from Tudor that brings a little bit of pop to an otherwise subdued, understated design. The Tudor Black Bay 54 โ€œLagoon Blueโ€ is currently available from Tudorโ€™s Authorised Dealers with an Australian RRP of $6,300.
