  • Vacheron Constantin has continued its 270th anniversary celebrations with the debut of the Overseas Grand Complication Openface, the watchmakerโ€™s most complicated sports watch ever.
  • Entirely crafted from grade 5 titanium, the watch features a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, tourbillon, and skeletonised dial.
  • The watch is not a limited edition, but will be in โ€œlimited productionโ€.

Regular Boss Hunting readers will already know itโ€™s the 270th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin, and in the brandโ€™s continued celebrations, the Swiss watchmaker has unveiled the most technically ambitious sports watch to date: the Overseas Grand Complication Openface. Crafted entirely from grade 5 titanium, this jaw-dropping piece is the first Overseas to feature a minute repeater, bringing the zenith of high horology into a watch thatโ€™s made for action.

Housed in a surprisingly slim 13.1mm profile (considering its shopping list of functions), the 44.5mm case surrounds a skeletonised dial showcasing a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, and a tourbillon โ€“ all of which are delivered via the hand-wound 58-hour power reserve calibre 2755 QP. This movement, which made its debut in 2005, comprises no less than 602 meticulously hand-finished components and arrives complete with the Geneva Seal.

Despite housing a minute repeater โ€“ a complication notoriously fussy when it comes to water โ€“ Vacheron took a year to reengineer the system from scratch to ensure 30 metres of water resistance. This rating is still achieved despite the minute repeating slide and the crown, which doesnโ€™t screw down, both of which present as potential points of moisture ingress.

As the name suggests, the dial is semi-transparent, with floating registers that reveal glimpses of the movement beneath, making for a watch thatโ€™s equally about the visual architecture as it is about its undeniable mechanical firepower. Paired with a titanium bracelet that matches the case, prospective owners can expect the same ergonomic presence on the wrist as offered by other references within the Overseas collection.

Itโ€™s an interesting watch, not just because of how technically sophisticated it is, but because of the lifestyle-focused format it arrives in. The Overseas Grand Complication Openface is equal parts a statement of watchmaking expertise and a holy grail for Vacheron Constantin collectors, cementing it as one of the most impressive watches thatโ€™s likely to be released in 2025.

While not strictly a limited edition, production of this watch will be limited due to the movementโ€™s complexity and the challenge of producing it. As for how deep your pockets need to be to get one on your wrist, the RRP is unsurprisingly POA.
