Nothing says Christmas hangover quite like spending Boxing Day scrolling flight deals and planning your next trip. Fortunately, Virgin Australia has given a big nod to this holiday tradition by launching a big Boxing Day sale with 800,000 domestic and international fares heavily discounted from now until midnight AEST on Thursday, December 29.

Boxing Day sales are popping up all over the place today. Amazon Australia has a great one going, and there are a bunch of others mostly shedding dollars across technology and fashion. Travel doesn’t often see Boxing Day discounts like this, so Virgin Australia’s very welcome move is good news for anyone planning to start the new year with travel.

Virgin Australia Boxing Day fares are dropping by up to 30% off with tickets as low as $55 (Economy one-way) on routes like Sydney to Ballina (Byron Bay). Although I imagine most of the interest will be for the international fares, which include destinations like Tokyo, Bali and Vanuata for travel on selected dates between February and September, 2023.

Some of the better domestic flight deals include Brisbane to Cairns for $89 and Perth to Sydney from $209. There’s also Melbourne to Hobart for $79, in case you want to get your Dark Mofo flights sorted early.

In terms of international flights, return prices include Gold Coast to Denpasar (Bali) from $479, the newly introduced Cairns to Tokyo route on sale from $699, and Brisbane to Vanuatu from $539.

For anyone who remembers the Virgin Australia Black Friday sale a few weeks ago, these Boxing Day fares aren’t that much different. In fact, a lot of the reduced prices for airfares are pretty much the same, acting as more of an extension of an already existing sale.

Virgin Australia’s final airfare sale of the year also extends to other domestic destinations such as Gold Coast, Cairns, Hobart and Perth. Although do note that all the prices you’ll see below, as tempting as they are, are based on flights in Economy Lite. You’ll still, however, be able to earn Velocity Points on any flights booked during the sale relative to the fare class.
